Becca

Forever in our hearts
Becca was a shining light in my life! Bright, talented, beautiful, and opinionated, she was the dog leader of her pack, which included her litter mate sister Kenzie and her "little" brother BC Seamus. When she spoke, they listened. She loved playing with Seamus, racing the fence when cars went by, doing canine freestyle, and barking at those annoyingly loud motorcycles. At first the lump on her back was described as non-cancerous, but once it was removed and examined, it was determined to be subcutaneous hermangisarcoma. By this time a new growth appeared almost overnight on her leg and then another. A visit to an oncologist told the sad story that there was virtually nothing they could do. Perhaps she had two months, perhaps not. We were fortunate to have a few inches of early snow, which Becca loved! I cherish the video I took of her playing in it a week before her death. I am grateful that until the day of her death, she was happy and "normal". That awful morning began with her inability to stand and unwillingness to eat, something that had never happened in her 12 years. That night, one week before Christmas, her breathing became labored, and I had to let her go. We all miss her every day. With each new season, I think about what brought her joy: running in fall leaves, nose-plowing the snow and enjoying a mouthful of it as she plowed, sniffing spring breezes, and summer birdwatching from the patio. Love you still, beautiful girl!
