Forever in our hearts
Reemie was a very old soul. It shone in her eyes, her demeanor, her incredibly high frequency, level of trust and her way of loving. All who met her were taken aback and asked, "Who's in there?" because it was obvious to all that there was more than a bird in there.
We were on PBS "Nature" and I wrote many articles about her for several magazines. When I lost her, the influx of condolences made me weep.. they came from all over the world. They still touch my heart and I am ever grateful that Reemie touched so many lives...
She was very regal, and did not like to play with toys. However, if I draped a towel over one of the lower cabinet doors in the bathroom and put a well liked toy behind it, she would sometimes play, but not when I was looking. Never while I was looking. So I used to fill my heart by watching her roll around with the little toy through the narrow opening between the door and the wall... but if she caught me, she stopped instantly. It was as though she were embarrassed to be caught playing. Being so badly handicapped it was very hard for her to play... so I cherished the moments when she did play.
I cherished her... and always will. Our souls are connected. I knew her the instant I saw her. So much so that I took her home with me even though she had a caregiver (who was horrible)... I said, "I'm taking her home with me." He never even blinked.
It was meant to be.
Thank you universe for this precious gift and trusting me to love and care for her.
