Bridgette
Forever in our hearts
Bridgette, the English mastiff, joined our Golden crew in the spring of 2005 , at three months of age. She was my second mastiff. She thought she was a golden retriever because she grew up with goldens. She was a majestic girl who would come to the rescue of her golden sisters at the drop of a hat and frightened off coyotes when they appeared on our walks. She was also my first dog to have cancer in the form of lymphoma. Because she was such a big girl and to say the least pretty mellow, we did not know she had cancer until she became very ill. As I think back on behavioral changes three months before diagnosis, I realize that she did not feel good for quite a while before she began to display symptoms. In fact, when I was recuperating from foot surgery in January 2014, she was already suffering but never let me know. Instead, she slept with me the whole time I was recovering whether it be on the sofa or bed and followed me everywhere in the house. She died in April 2014 followed in death by Annie, the Golden, who had hemangiosarcoma. Thank God for Morris Animal Foundation and what they are doing to fight this terrible disease..
