Butter

Forever in our hearts
For every person who has taken on the responsibility to bring an animal home knows what "fulfillment of the heart" means. Some of the words that easily come to mind are friend, companion, little stinker, spoiled brat, silly goose, etc., but most the most important words, UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. There are few creatures on this earth that can so warm the heart as a companion animal. My beloved, Butter was just that animal. He wasn't just a dog, he was my son. We shared 10 wonderful years together. He was there for me throughout my own personal health struggles, knowing when to come to my bedside to look at me as if to say, "mom, you are going to be okay I just wanted to check on you this morning". During the 10 years that we were together, Butter became my rock. I could talk to him and he knew what I was saying. Sometimes, we did not exchange words, it was just the look that meant we were a team. As Butter entered his senior years, he and I would spend countless hours with me holding his hand. I would take the hair on the top of his head and ruffle it up mohawk style. He didn't know how much that meant to me. Towards the last 6 months of his life, he still gave tremendous love in spite of the pain that he suffered. No amount of medication could take away his pain. I knew that I had to let him cross the Rainbow Bridge. That day was not easy for me but Butter found the strength to smile that day. He had been freed from his broken body. Rest my love. We will see each other again.
