Chance
Forever in our hearts
In Loving Memory of Second Chance -
My friend and companion of more than 20 years (his mother was my first horse). In his third bout of laminitis (resulting from his insulin-resistant condition), it was kindest to end his suffering. I am hopeful that research efforts of the Morris Animal Foundation will find a treatment for this condition to prevent pain and suffering for horses with this condition.
An odd mix of half Morgan/half Quarter horse (out of a rope horse), he could slide with the best of them - and is the sole reason both Chad and I started reining. In his many years of reining, he provided me the opportunity go to regional affiliate finals and pursue my passion, freestyle reining. Known to be an escape artist, he was an amazingly intelligent horse who always seemed to know (from the barn and behind the house) when we pulled in the driveway - always whinnying. He touched lives of many in his special ways - including his kisses, bows, and nods of saying "yes", he wanted another cookie. He was an amazing kid horse, gentle with little fingers giving him carrots and allowing as many "butt" slides a kid wanted.
I miss him so -- and pray that he rests with his mother Rebel and his buddies Abar and Attie -- pain free, in green pastures.....
