Ivan

Ivan was a Livestock Guardian Dog (Akbash/Marema cross) who had more than a job on this ranch. At 6 weeks old, he was weaned from his goat mama and brought to live with our sheep herd. Ivan was our first guardian dog, but he made it so easy to learn what it was all about. Even at this young age, he took the herd as his own and never left them for a moment until he passed away at the age of 12 years old. Never did we loose any livestock to predators...not from their lack of trying. Our gentle giant held our hearts and gratitude tightly....he was our protector from varmints and villians, alike. He left a big hole in our lives and is still greatly missed. We have two young female LGDs that are working hard to fill Ivan's pawprints, but those are truly some big paws to follow.
