Jetta

Forever in our hearts
Jetta was a lively, happy and loving labrador that was a Service Dog in Training for an organization named Can Do Canines. We were her volunteer puppy raisers and as such it was initially planned that we would raise her for the first 18 months of her life and then she would go into final training and be matched with a client. Later, after she was a little over a year old, we were told she would become part of the fabulous breeding program with the organization and that this would allow her to stay with us and have litters of puppies that would continue the growth of the organization to meet the needs of the people on the waiting list. Unfortunately, at 2 1/2 years old in March, 2015 Jetta became sick and was diagnosed with Lyme's disease. She was given medicine and anticipated to make a recovery just fine. The odds though were not in her favor and she was one of the rare cases that acquired severe kidney failure as part of the disease without warning. Within 48 hours the decision was made to euthanize her to prevent her from extraordinarily painful deterioration and procedures. Although technically she wasn't ours and we were voluntarily raising and loving her, our hearts felt differently and she was every bit of ours in our heart as all of our family pets, past and present. She even stole a different part of our hearts because of her role she was allowed to go everywhere with us; movies, hotels, restaurants, stores etc. and she became an indelible part of our lives
