Logan & Zachary
Forever in our hearts
Logan and Zachary were the lights of my life. We traveled across the country together and lived too many adventures to share. Knowing the huge cancer risk to this breed, every 6 months I would order abdominal ultrasounds, chest x-rays and a complete blood panel. My hope was I could detect cancer early enough to react and fight it. This plan did not work for Zachary. 4 months after his latest diagnostics, he was diagnosed with TCC and Osteosarcoma in a vertebrae in his neck. After $22,000 and 37 days, he died. The day he left me is a day a part of my heart died. He was my best friend and I feel his absence every day.
At the same time (within 24 hours) of Zachary's diagnosis, Logan (his older brother who was 12) was diagnosed with metastatic plasma cell carcinoma. An unusual diagnosis with no real data. My oncologist treated Logan as if he were a multiple myeloma patient. We put Logan in remission for 3 years and he died of a brain tumor when he was 15 years and 4 months old.
My boys are forever with me and sorely missed. Thank you for reading this.
Preventative diagnostics gave me 3 years more with Logan. Many doctors would have counted him out after finding tumors in his spleen and liver. He fought and had 3 quality years with me. I wish vets would raise awareness that for some cancers, preventative diagnostics can make all the difference.
