Maggie
Forever in our hearts
I wasn't looking to adopt another dog, I already had 4. Then I saw her picture in the paper. Furry Friends Network was looking for a home for her. She was a year old and listed as a black lab mix. Unlike many other people (black dogs get adopted last), I loved black dogs, so I applied for her. She was a real sweetie and loved the water, going for walks and generally being by my side. Maggie loved everyone and was known as Maggie Waggy because her tail never stopped. When she was 8 it was found she had cancer and only had a few months. I then took her to a vet known for treating cancer in animals and she started chemo immediately. This was in March 2013. She did great and the chemo never bothered her. She ate well, maintained her weight and, most important, felt good and was happy all the time. We got to enjoy many, many walks together. I took her with me when we ran errands because she loved the car rides. Almost a year later, she started to go down hill. I lost Maggie one year and one day after her cancer diagnoses. I am still grateful for that extra year we had together. When I said good bye, she was only 9. Way too young to leave my side.
