9/3/14: Maggie, we left the house to go to your favorite place - the park. As always, Ralph waited for us to leave before moving so he could watch over us. You weren’t there. He didn’t understand... Or maybe it’s his way of telling us that he knows you'll never be out of our hearts. He wanted you to go in front of him so he could watch over you too. 8 yrs ago, your Daddy & I were trying to figure out if we wanted children. We just had Ralph at the time, & he tried my every patience. I didn’t think I would be a good mom. Then you came into our lives & I realized that I could be the kind of mom I wanted to be. You made me a better person. You made it so easy to love you unconditionally. We didn’t need anything else. Our family was complete. Your howl was the best sound ever. Your tail wagging was our favorite sight. You chasing Ralph was the best exercise for our hearts. Coming home to you & Ralph was the best part of our day. We thought your chemo would be so hard, but you made it easy. Sometimes you howled the whole ride in. When we arrived, you sprang from the car & walked in, tail wagging. You said hello to every dog. What a lesson you taught us! Even when you weren’t healthy, you took the time to make new friends & enjoy the important parts of life. You made everyone smile. You lost your battle to cancer. Your heart couldn't take it anymore. We are so glad that you didn’t suffer long, but we wish we had more time to say good-bye. You are always in our hearts.
