Maile
Maile fought her whole life to live. She was a patient of the Baker Animal Hospital in West Palm Beach, FL for most all of her life. Dr. Baker consulted with the Morris Foundation and Gainesville regarding a study they were conducting on immune problems when she was a kitten. She was allergic to almost all food, litter, other cats. She was given immune infusions for a year to strengthen her immune system because she kept getting respiratory infections/pneumonia. Dr. Baker was a wonderful, committed vet and her staff as well. We all fought to keep Maile alive. After Maile was three, Dr. Baker believed we had won the worst of the battle. Periodically, Maile had difficulties with skin lesions, food reactions. Her personality was the most loving, affectionate kitty--dedicated to her humans and kitty sisters. She was whip-smart and incredible strong at her 6 lbs. Moving to North Carolina and new vets, Maile started crying at night. Since she was almost 14, the vet and no obvious reasons were disclosed by senior testing, the vet felt it was behavioral. Her Moms thought she was in pain. After almost two years of her receiving pain medicine, having difficulty keeping food down, Maile vomited blood. Despite past xrays which showed no disease, her cray showed a large mass which the vet was positive due to the rapid growth was cancer. So the little angel who cared for a blind Siamese who had a stroke, another Siamese with cancer, and two humans who had their own bouts with illness, gave up her fight. Her loss is tremendous. Her gifts to us were incalculable, filled with love and grace. Maile will always be loved, never forgotten.
