Monty
Forever in our hearts
Monty was abandoned in a park in NJ and spent several weeks fending for himself as best he could. Some hikers found him and brought him to an emergency hospital for treatment since he was extremely malnourished and dehydrated. Not surprisingly, he had Lyme Disease from being out in the woods for so long.
He was adopted by a friend of ours and lived with her for several years. She fell and broke her shoulder and asked us to care for him while she recovered. Big mistake - Monty never left our home. He had this quirky little lopsided grin to his face, a result of Bell's Palsy which he developed from the untreated Lyme. It was so endearing. His nickname was "Pee Pot" since he loved to mark on everything he passed while out on walks.
Monty died from bladder cancer. Our last vacation together was spent at the beach on the Outer Banks. How he loved to sit on the dunes and watch the waves roll in..but he'd run like the devil if the water came too close! I was so glad that we got to spend this quality time with him before we had to help his cross. He's with all his other buddies chasing tennis balls and hangin' out.
