Pablo
Pablo was born in the suburbs of Pittsburgh on August 30, 2013. I adopted him a few months later on New Years Eve, driving through a blizzard on the way home. I was originally interested in his half-brother, who photographed better, foretelling Pablo's lifelong dislike of having his picture taken. However, in person, Pablo won me over, wiggling happily on my chest, which did not foretell Pablo's lifelong dislike of snuggling.
Pablo had a fantastic life. He went on many adventures with his best friend, Millie, including walks in Rock Creek Park and trips to Delaware, West Virginia, and New York. He particularly loved stealing Millie's kibble and, when they were both younger, engaging in epic stare-downs after which they would burst into excited greetings. Pablo also traveled the country and the world, including trips to Minnesota, California, Michigan, Ohio, Colorado, and British Columbia. He was such a good traveler that people were often surprised that they were sitting next to a dog at the end of a flight.
Pablo was a lifelong volunteer with People Animals Love, through which he served as a therapy dog at libraries, schools, hospitals, and airports. He particularly loved children, and for more than a few children, he was the first dog they were not scared of. Most importantly, he was a companion to me, following me from room to room (but never getting too close), taking me on walks that involved more sniffing than walking, letting me know (clearly!) when treats were desired, and greeting me with the most excited wiggles and squeaks when I came home. Pablo died peacefully from hemangiosarcoma on November 29, 2025, surrounded by many of his favorite people. He was my first pet, and he will be missed so very, very much.
Remembering and honoring you every day, in many different ways
Sorry about your loss
I know Pablo will be deeply missed.
Pablo was such a good dog! I remember how he tolerated me cuddling (?!) him at Anne and Rand's house as one of the important steps in laying the groundwork with Erik for getting my own Havanese. And what a great time he and Nigel had together - supervising our paddling and wine tastings in California, visiting Aunt Martha in the hospital, loving all the contractors trapesing through our place. Pablo lived a great life and was so lucky to have you as his human. I'm so sorry you had to say goodbye.
I’m so sorry for your loss. Pablo was such a good boy and I always loved seeing him and Millie romping around 314 like two peas in a pod!
