Peppermint Patty
Forever in our hearts
Here is a poem I wrote about our mini schnauzer after she passed away. She was very special!
Ode To Peppermint Patty
We christened her “Granny”
A little runt with cradle cap
Blessed with a brand new life
Emerged “Peppermint Patty”
Or a miracle, perhaps
Her beauty was astounding
“Miss America” with a bark
With a two-toned tongue to boot
Quite a distinctive mark
Smart as a whip
She played alternate paws
And could even sneak licorice sticks
Out of candy stores
As a bid for attention
She would drag out the bathroom mat
But who could ignore
A character like that?
Always “the boss’ when out for a walk
Her brakes firmly in gear
And when feeding time arrived
She could surely talk
What was it that made her so wise?
Was she really Grandpa Sam in disguise?
We could never quite be sure
But there was something in her eyes
Everything comes full circle
Even in the canine world
For she once again became “Granny”
But was still our little girl
She gave us 17 years of joy and pleasure
Our love for her will last forever
For she was truly God’s greatest treasure
