Punkin
Forever in our hearts
This little girl, Punkin, was the love of my life. She came into the world on 4/3/97 with 4 siblings, born of a female that was a stray cat at that time but must have been someone’s pet earlier in life because she was a sweet, friendly mom cat. I was given charge of the mom cat by the rescue group I worked with that took her off the street. My job was to see that all the kittens, when born, flourished and were ready for their new homes by the time they were eight weeks old. Mom cat was to be adopted too.
Punkin was the runt of the litter so I gave her extra care and bottle fed her so she would have a fighting chance at life. She was a talker from the moment she entered this world and was extremely smart - learning many words.
I have always been a “cat person” and have had many cats throughout my life. However, I never had a “special connection” with any of these other wonderful creatures. Punkin was different from all these previous cats so when it came time to return all the kittens (and mom cat) to the rescue organization at eight weeks old, I could not part with her. Over the next 19 years, Punkin was my soul cat, the light of my life.
Three months ago, on May 26, 2016, I had to face the terrible reality of having my girl put to sleep because of kidney failure. My husband and I were with her and we both cried many tears. Not a day goes by that we don't miss her. She will forever be my "special girl". I hope one day to see her again.
