Sammy

Forever in our hearts
Sammy was a delightful surprise to his mom as he was a special gift she received at the airport upon return from a long, hard trip she had been on. Also known as “Sambo," "Sammy Brutus" or “Sambo-Mo-Hambo”, Sammy was ever the mama’s boy and loved to get and give affection to both of his parents. At six months old, Sammy welcomed his little sister, Layla (also a Lhasa Apso) into the family. At first he enjoyed kicking her around, but after several months of Layla hearing “girls rule” from mom, she took over as the “alpha,” and Sammy patiently resigned himself to the (mostly) playful bullying of his little sister. Sammy loved long walks with mom, dad and sister, and he reveled in being off-leash and running far into the distance with Layla at his side. He had a passion for prairie dogs and would ceaselessly chase them until he had no more energy left to do so. He was friendly and gregarious with guests, loved to ride in the car, wind blowing in his hair, but he hated to visit the vet. Later in his life, Sammy developed diabetes and had problems with his vision. But this did not stop him from patiently putting up with his sister and new nephew, Cubby (a cocker spaniel) and continuing to give love and affection to his mom. In August of 2014, at the age of 14, Sammy peacefully passed after a long life of giving love and being loved by his family. He will always be missed and will forever be remembered as “Mama’s Sweet Boy.”
