Samson
Forever in our hearts
Samson was our first golden retriever and Greg's first heart dog. Our big red boy came into our home at a year of age and immediately took to life as a "mountain dog". He protected his family against elk, deer, crows and anything else that might have happened onto the property. He loved humans and delighted in getting to play with small children. Puppies he just wanted to ignore, but small dogs were always great playmates and he was always a gentle giant with them. Sam welcomed rescue golden Carmel into the home after a couple years of being an only dog, and would put up with her trying to be as close as possible to her "big brother". He never meant a human, or a bite of food that he didn't like. He was the consummate sock thief, and no guests suitcases were off limits if there were socks to steal! At age 12, Sam was diagnosed with liver cancer and underwent surgery to remove one of the lobes. He bounced back and remained the BEST BOY EVER for another 13 months. We lost Sam on Mother's Day, so fitting because now he could be with his favorite human Grandma who had passed away a little over a year prior.
