Stuart

One night, years ago, someone tied a neglected, older, black and white cocker spaniel to the fence of my local dog pound. I paid $30 for that dog, named him Stuart, and spent the next eight years with the best dog I ever knew. Stuart was well-behaved, merry, brave, game, and handsome. I've loved great dogs before Stuart, and I love the dachshunds I have now, but no dog gave off the kind of energy that Stuart gave me every day. Wherever we were, I could turn to him, and he would immediately turn his bright black eyes to me and wag that little tail~ "How lucky we are to have each other!" Perhaps the story of Stuart might convince others to rescue an older dog and maybe they'll also meet the best dog they ever knew.
