Sully
Special Memories of Sully
Sully began his life as one of 12 pups born to a rescued mother on a farm. He was the second biggest of the 10 who survived, and we fell in love with him immediately. I’ll never forget the drive to West Virginia to meet the transport team bringing him down from Ohio. When I finally met that sweet little pup, he was covered in pee and vomit because he was not a good traveler! When they opened the crate, he crawled right between my legs. I sat there for the next 20 minutes with paper towels, wet wipes, and a trash bag cleaning him up—and from that moment on, I knew we had a bond that could never be broken.
Through twelve and a half years, Sully was the steady heart of our home. He was there through everything: the countless foster dogs we brought in, the neighborhood kids who spent weekends with my children, our cats, and every family gathering. No matter the chaos, Sully was gentle, kind, and loved everyone.
He did have a "taste" for furniture in his younger years—he managed to eat two whole couches! But no matter how mad you thought you wanted to get, one look at that face and it just wasn't possible to stay angry. He was a loyal companion with nothing but unconditional love inside of him.
In his final year, we faced the challenge of severe hip dysplasia. Whether it was 1:00 in the afternoon or 3:00 in the morning, if he had an accident, we were there. If he wanted to be outside, we picked up all 184 pounds of him and let him be in the fresh air. I never realized how much I truly loved this dog until I had to face the reality that no matter how much we did, the "good life" was slipping away from him. The pain was growing, his mobility was fading, and I could see in his eyes that he was tired.
On February 14, 2026, with a heavy heart, my two sons, their friends, and I worked together to take him to Middletown Veterinary Hospital to finally give him peace. The hole in my heart is huge, but I know he is in a better place where his legs are strong again.
Rest peacefully, my friend, and thank you for all the years you gave me. You will be missed forever.
