Summer
Forever in our hearts
Summer was a wonderful Golden Retriever who enjoyed sleeping on the couch on her back with feet straight up, loved her stuffed animals and loved her “treats” even if they were just kibble. She learned to freestyle (tricks to music) and had fun doing “nose-work” (but only easy tracking for treats). She was extremely gentle, loving & provided a calming & healing presence with everyone she met.
Summer was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma on her heart in October 2014. She underwent open heart surgery; 5 rounds of Chemotherapy & took an excellent Chinese herbal medication (Yunnan Biayao) which helped when she occasionally bled out.
Hopefully Morris Foundation will study Yunnan Biayao. The response to Yunnan Biayao was truly amazing & could be seen within the hour by stopping the bleeding when she had vessel rupture episodes. - We thank Dr. Kevin Choy of Seattle Veterinary Specialists for adding alternative medicine as a treatment to extend her life until her “Dad” could come home during a college break for a final hug good-bye.
The treatment gave us an 5 extra months (or 2.5 doggie years) before she died on March 9th (5 weeks shy of her 10th birthday). In the little time we had left, we made sure she had special doggie vacations and walks so she could fully enjoy as much of the last months as possible (and leave us with great memories).
She took a piece of my heart when she passed away. Summer will always remain in my heart forever as our faithful friend and family member.
