Sydney

Forever in our hearts
Sydney was 8, the beloved golden retriever of our youngest son, Cody. Sydney's arrival was a little miracle. Cody's first golden, Harley, died unexpectedly, just shy of turning 7. We were devastated. Our vet told us of a local breeder who coincidentally had a new litter the week before. We visited the pups but all were spoken for, which was OK, as Cody was uncertain about "replacing" Harley, especially with another golden. An unexpected call from the breeder changed his mind. She said Syd had been "rejected" by her new owner. Cody's heart was touched and he decided a female would allow her to be different enough from Harley. Cody named her Sydney Bristow, after a strong, smart, brave and beautiful television character. The name suited her perfectly. There was never any need to worry about comparing his two dogs. Her distinct personality was a beautiful blend of sweet and fierce. The moon made her crazy. She was nocturnal. She loved to swim. She made us laugh when she would race around our kitchen island, or full speed out the back door, leaping off the deck to run circles in the yard. She sensed spirits above her. She comforted us in our loss. I was desperate to know how we could lose two goldens, both so young, both collapsing at my feet. Cornell confirmed that Syd died (and we believe Harley may have, too), from a cardiac Hemangiosarcoma. Our house has lost some of its energy. No more barking. No more "crazy." We will love and miss her forever.
