Tommy
Forever in our hearts
Tommy was a stray found on the streets of Philadelphia. When we adopted him in April 2010, we couldn't believe what a great little guy he was. Tommy had a wonderful personality and everyone who met him just fell in love with him. He was so much fun, enjoyed life to the fullest and our Scottie Caileigh just loved him. Nine months after we adopted him, he was diagnosed with malignant melanoma of the oral cavity. Needless to say, we were devastated. When surgery wasn't an option, we chose to seek medical care at the Cornell University Hospital for Animals in Ithaca, NY. I heard they were the best. Tommy received palliative radiation (4 treatments, once each week) plus the melanoma vaccine booster. We made many trips to Cornell for the vaccine boosters and check-ups. During this time, Tommy never skipped a beat. He continued to enjoy life with us and his adopted sister Caileigh. Although there was no cure for his cancer, he lived for 14 months after diagnosis (we were told 3 - 6 months would be is life span with this cancer). Tommy crossed the rainbow bridge on March 17, 2012, St. Patrick's Day. Tommy was a tough little Scottie from Phillie and made sure he enjoyed life as long as possible and we gave him a good quality of life for as long as we possibly could. You took a piece of my heart with you Tommy. We miss you Tommy and will love you forever.
