Xena, Sadie and Jule
Forever in our hearts
We lost these fuzzheads in 2010, 2012 and 2014 to lymphomas. Each one manifested their lymphoma a little differently. The first one, Sadie, the one in the middle of the photo) we did no treatment with and we lost her in less than a month after diagnosis. It tore our hearts out. She was a soul sister....and of all dogs we've had, the smartest and most loving. We literally cried for days....I was nearly suicidal.....and from time to time, we still cry about losing her... and it's 6 years later. There will NEVER be another Sadie.....That said, each of the other two (her daughter, Xena on the left) and the red dog, Jule, were characters in their own right. We did treatment on Jule and Xena and while we spent literally thousands to keep them with us, we felt it was worth it, as it extended their lives by another 11 months on one and 13 months on the other. That doesn't sound like much, but when you figure the percentage of a dog's life, that is like YEARS. We agreed we would do this only so long as they were feeling well most of the time. We were glad to have done it...and grateful that we could afford it. I feel for people that simply cannot find the money to help lengthen their dog's life. I continue to hope for a treatment or cure that is affordable for all. Unfortunately, cancer treatment is big business and the pharmacuetical companies have us all by the short hairs. We are grateful for the Morris Animal Foundation and their work. Thank you for allowing us to share our love.
